    Fuck yeah! UNION STRONG!

Looking up the pay rates of these dock workers and they get paid less than I do as a Teamster.

All the bullshit I overhear says they are all millionaires lmao. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Pay for longshoremen is based on their years of experience. Under the ILA’s former contract with USMX, which expired on Monday, starting pay for dockworkers was $20 per hour. That rose to $24.75 per hour after two years on the job and to $31.90 after three years, topping out at $39 for workers with at least six years of service.

Maybe that’s with overtime or something. ILA top out at $39/hour.

The contract they want would be $69/hour after three years. That’s about $144,000/year.

I clearly should not have gone to college.

No, I think it’s better if most white-collar jobs make less than blue-collar jobs. Someone needs to line the pockets of the c-suite. That will make less people go to college and less people aspire to bullshit jobs that don’t do anything. Like the world needs another app developer, full stack developer, or middle manager. I think we’re all set with that.

That’s definitely going to be the overall average once you include about 4 hours of overtime

Well, that’s something. I resent having to vote for her to prevent him. But I’ll take what I can get. Support unions!

If you can hold the entire economy hostage, you’re not getting paid enough.

Yeah people really quick to blame essential workers.

100k a year? What a joke. Unless you already bought, you are never gonna get a house near a major docks with that salary.

            All workers really.

When the extremely wealthy hold the economy hostage it’s the “invisible hand of the free market” and when labor holds the economy hostage they’re selfish and greedy free loaders. Really sad how that happens.

We’re out here with the highest wealth inequality ever seen and you’re mad that a few folks actually have enough power to demand their fair share? Fuck off you 0.1% apologist.

A 77% increase over 6 years is 9.15% per year, which is quite good, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable.

You think thats bad, wait until you hear about the shareholders. They dont even have to pretend to work and they’ll be paid far more for their lack of trouble. The shareholders have had well in excess of a 77% pay rise and, despite that, want even more.

Crazy right? I bet that’s got you really annoyed, considering those are worse than the exact thing you were complaining about above…

        Right?

This guy would walk into a contract negotiation, see they are giving out pretzels. Sit down, anxiously waiting for a pretzel, and say, “anything you want just let me have a pretzel already!”

Really interesting to see all the experts on TV. Just look them up… usually billionaire business owners. Very concerned with the impact on the small business and the average Americans… Uh-huh.

Listen man, I’m all for news about candidates backing things but can we please start putting in * comments indicating whether or not they actually followed through with any actual progress or at least describing the situation at hand.

We just went through a years worth of Biden pretending to care about Gaza, and 2 months of Harris also pretending to care about Gaza. And there are still people on here that are convinced the uncommitted movement is going to vote for her, or that she is actually going to change her policy, which is dangerous because its exactly the same situation that caused Hillary to lose in 2016.

People are out here mast posting about Harris backing decriminalization of weed, yet everyone older than 30 pointed out that democrats have been promising to properly achieve that for 2 decades now, and that Harris refuses to mention her antics as state prosecutor.

I don’t want to discount the positive here, especially because Trump would probably make a union assassination board lol, but we need to remember what actually transpires vs what a candidate claims.

    spoiler

It only took 5 seconds for people to mention how Biden struck down the railroad union and their strike, and he stated that he doesn’t want to negotiate with collective bargaining. Harris is his VP, and therefore she extends his policy. This could easily backfire, and we could just have a repeat situation where nothing happens for several weeks, and then all of a sudden a random backroom deal materializes out of nowhere, and nothing actually gets accomplished aside from PR.
