Should we expect a confrontation between Marina and Reika in the future about it?
I really don’t know, and that pleases me.
It seemed before that the question was whether or not there was any truth to Reika’s unspecified claims about the committee chair (I presume from the title that they’re calling her Iinchou, and I think I’m going to switch to that, regardless of what the translation calls her). The implication was that either way, Marina took Reika’s word for it, because she was just focused on being happy and keeping her friends happy.
Presumably, that last bit is true, but now we know that there are unexpected depths to Marina - that she wasn’t just comfortably oblivious. If she had been, and had discovered (or remembered) the truth, then yeah - a confrontation would likely be inevitable. But since she actually knew all along and chose to not pursue it…?
I could see it going either way. On the one hand, this means that Marina is to some degree dishonest, which it would seem that she should confront and overcome. But on the other hand, it’s apparently for the benefit of her friend, and it might well be the case that Marina judged it correctly - that, for instance, Reika is so fragile that the truth, and especially the fact that Marina knows the truth, would tear her apart, so a confrontation would be a net negative.
But really, after this chapter, it’s possible - arguably even likely - that it’s going to end up going some entirely unexpected third way. Which is great.
