Here’s a spoiler-less “what to expect” based on the manga. The series boils down to three elements:
it’s executed in a very simple and straightforward way, but it’s well done, in a way that those three things don’t conflict with each other. So if you like those things you’ll probably like Mato Seihei no Slave, otherwise you’ll probably want to pass it.
This is super helpful in setting my expectations. I think it will all come down to execution in the anime for me. I am not fully sold from the first episode, but I see the potential there. At least it is off to a better start than many truly generic isekai that are completely forgettable.
It’s no masterwork, but it’s fun. And I agree with you - it’s way better than the “pulp magazine” isekai that you see every season, and looks nothing like them.
