I think this is where I depart from the anime. The first episode had a bit of a different vibe from your typical isekai, but this one feels much more in line with what’s typical for the genre. I’m also not really a fan of Rose as a character, nor as a force for the plot. I do like the idea that healing magic can be used to circumvent normal physical limitations in training, allowing you to basically powerlevel your body, but neat ideas on their own don’t really carry a show.

For those still watching, I hope the show ends up being what you’re after, even if it’s not for me.

    Cue the training montage!

It’s true that building up muscle mass is a process of healing after you’ve damaged your muscles by exerting them.

Healing magic just accelerates the process, and conveniently alleviates soreness at the same time.

I find it strange that the other members of the Rescue Squad aren’t healing magic users.

I believe they mentioned really briefly in the first episode that healing magic is quite rare in this world. Also, that there are two other healing mages in the city, but they are not usually living with the rest of the Rescue Squad (we will meet them in the future). If I remember correctly, we do get to see how the gang of non-healers fit into and help the squad, so I won’t go into details here, but they are more or less meant to be support to the actual healers.

In this episode we get a picture into the life of a member of the rescue squad. I am not sure I personally buy that venting about training like this in a journal is enough to prevent me from complaining while it is happening, but I guess that is what makes Usato protagonist material. I am looking forward to Usato’s time in the forest hunting a bear. It has been long enough since I last read through this part of the manga that I don’t remember all the details of what happens, but I do remember liking this bit.

Also, I did not remember Inukami thirsting over Usato so much. I mean, I get it, he got a six pack over the course of two weeks, but I thought her reactions were silly in a fun way. It never got in the way of what was going on. And yes, we all saw you peeking Miss Princess.

Edit: Just wanted to add that I really like the OP for this show. It’s not one of my favorites of all time or anything, but definitely better than your average OP and way better than the forgettable ED.
