Ribon Napolin is a regionally produced soda in Japan. Made since 1911, it’s famous for its Hokkaido ingredients: Hokkaido water and local beet sugar.

    Also, grandma is a bitch.

edit: Apparently, all Hokkaido people can be referred to as “Dosanko” after a local horse breed, one of eight indigenous Japanese horse breeds.

Interesting info about the soda and the nickname. I guess the nickname isn’t that different than the colloquial names given to some US state’s residents (Sooners, Hoosiers, etc.).

Wow, grandma sucks. I thought that Tomoki from Tsukimichi was clearly going to be the least likeable character out of the shows I watch this week, but granny is neck and neck.

I don’t know how much of this is the anime/manga filter vs. how much of it is real, but Japan’s focus on testing in school is actually something I would have preferred to much of my schooling in the US. There are tons of classes that I wish I could have just studied for and taken a test rather than do some elaborate other project as a form of assessment. I understand that everybody learns differently, but I always enjoyed tests because I could get it over with in one day.

As for the new girl, I still don’t quite know what to make of her. When she was at the trash area, I thought she was a chuuni with her stick and the crows. However, in the library, she was some kind of nerdy gal. Then later, at Tsubasa’s door, she was nerding out about traditional clothing. Hope we get a better read on her in the coming episodes.

I expect her to be a Japanophile. Or the caricature of one as a Japanese would write them.

Good point, I forgot they mentioned she was foreign. Almost guaranteed that is it then.

Grandma sucks, but that tends to be rather common among noble and pseudo-noble families.
