On an unrelated note, it feels like this community became quite active recently, that’s nice.
I have seen a couple new faces making posts over the past week or two, so that is always welcome. I still vividly remember when it was basically just me (and I think Rottcodd was one of the very early folks) making posts, so I am glad every time I see a chapter get posted by somebody before I get a chance to read it. Lemmy as a whole has seen some activity drop off, but the anime/manga/LN communities on ani.social have been growing…slowly, but hopefully sustainably.
I feel you. I also tried to kick-start a community pretty much since my first day on fediverse but gave up recently. Granted, my topic was way more niche than anime or manga but screaming into a void for so long gets tiring. Now I try to help with content in places with at least some amount of life in them - hopefully we’ll have a bit more discussions in the future.
This past week I came into possession of a large collection of physical manga volumes that a friend of a friend was trying to find a home for. They are all series that I haven’t read before and there are even a couple volumes in Japanese. The bulk of what I got is (I think, haven’t double-checked it is complete) the entire collection of Lone Wolf and Cub. The rest seems to be somewhat random volumes of samurai/ninja themed series. I just got it, so I haven’t actually read any of it yet, but I am looking forward to giving it a shot.
The other thing I did that I want to write about is that I caught up on a series in my backlog. Specifically, I am now up to date with Usuzumi no Hate. I have really, really enjoyed this series. I had originally thought that it would be an anthology like Kino’s Journey after the first couple chapters. However, it settles into a more chronologically continuous storytelling mode after spoilers redacted happens. Really looking forward to see where this one goes.
