That’s fucked up. I really wish there were legal alternatives to CR here. HIDIVE pulled out, Wakanim merged with CR and now it’s just CR for 90% of anime. There is no choice. Yeah sure Netflix and Disney+ have the occasional anime, but the vast majority is on CR. How the merger got past market authorities is wild to me. It’s a near monopoly. I watch on my TV, so sailing the seven seas for streaming sucks too.

If you have a smart tv or fire stick etc see if you can install Plex. Plex let’s you stream your local video library from your PC.

Yeah, I do this for my Blurays (with Jellyfin tho), but I don’t really want to bother with downloading seasonal anime episodically. I’d rather use streaming sites for that.

Totally fair. Look into the sonarr and radarr plugins. They let you add sources and shows to a watchlist and will grab new episodes weekly.

I’m so glad I made the decision to cancel CR, they are constantly biting the hands that feed them when there are dozens of free sites to watch this stuff.

Unfortunately those alternatives don’t move any money back to the anime studios making all the series we love.

And even buying the Blu-ray’s would still support the publishers doing this.

With Nintendo going after emulators and fan projects, it seems Japan has some serious problems with getting the message on treating their fandoms right.

I read once that crunchy also doesnt pay that much to the studios and its better to get the BD/DVD or other merch. Sadly dont have the source since its a few years ago that I read that article.

Streaming really doesn’t have that big a profit margin, so that makes sense.

Either way, publisher takes a cut.

I would just buy it directly from someone reliable in JP, it’s the only other way to support the artist directly.

When something is morally ok, no harm is being done but according to law is illegal, law probably should be changed.
