Yeah, I loved Mama Serie this chapter. I feel like this is a case where the anime’s characterization of her might have influenced how the manga portrayed her going forward. It reminded me of what I wrote back when the show was airing. Back in chapter 53, when Serie was reminiscing about training Flamme, she was way more cold and detached. Compare that to how that sequence played out in the anime in episode 25 and she comes off much warmer. Then, in this chapter, it is this warmer and more nostalgic version of Serie that we saw. I am a big fan of Serie like this, almost like she views herself as a caretaker for all these young’uns.

Big fan of getting some insight into the other mage requests of Serie. It is a great little tease about their backstory without just exposition dumping. This is the kind of story where we might learn more about that in the future, but we might also not…letting it forever be just a tease of what made that character who they are.
