Except that they don’t lose in any meaningful way, shape or form - it’s more like the author just arbitrarily assigned that interpretation to them for no sensible reason.
And really, Saotome’s scene wasn’t much better. It didn’t feel like an organic scene - more like the author just running him through a bunch of plot checkpoints. Saotome busting in on girls changing - check. Somebody commenting for the 800th time that he doesn’t notice those sorts of things when he’s thinking about fashion - check. Saotome saying something that embarrasses Hanako - check. Hanako not saying anything and Saotome not noticing - check.

Yeah that sucked. They’re still getting away with their incredibly gross behaviour. What Ushigome did was painted as a good thing, but the entire thing felt very humiliating. It wasn’t a ‘gotcha!’ moment at all.
