I’m playing whack a mole constantly, blocking all these anime subs!
?
I don’t see any anime subs by default just browsing the lemmy.world all page when sorted by hot, active, scaled, or new. So what exactly are you doing, and where do I sign up?
Seriously, I would love to see anime communities, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen one… Lemmy for me seems to be 99% US politics, 0.99% LLM bros trying to sell their scams, 0.01% other posts, of which about 0.01% might actually be interesting… 😐
Futa
Yiff
Hentai
Moe
FurHave fun with searches
Eh, I’m more into tentacles and whatnot.
Still, we were talking about seeing stuff by default, not by looking it up.
And the thing about Lemmy and having to look up stuff that you don’t see by default is that once you find it it turns out to be the same dozen or so posts you found the last time you looked. And the previous one. And the one before.
In the most tragic cases you can see a user posting stuff for a week or two around the time of the Reddit API exodus, hoping to attract other lemmings interested in the same stuff so they’d post their own… and slowly losing hope until they stop. It’s fucking sad.
Don’t get me wrong, Lemmy is still far better than Reddit is now, and orders of magnitude more alive if you don’t count the bots (Reddit is more alive in the sense that a decomposing corpse full of maggots is more full of life than the poor critter was before dying, except the maggots are bots, which aren’t alive at all), but it’s far from what Reddit was before it killed itself, let alone when when it was good.
Also, holy necromancy Batman… this thread was about a month old…!
Last 2 weeks I’ve had to block threads each day, so I finally went through and blocked them, was sharing with OP the word list to search to block and I saw that you were interested so there ya go lmao
I’ve had to block a lot of anime subs. It was a problem for a while, but now I hardly see any.
Yes, blocking something you don’t want to see usually results in seeing fewer of that thing.
Not when that thing has dozens of communities for every little nuance a genre can have. For example:
Block the instance
Edit: I love anime but my response was for those who don’t. If they want less then subscribe to the local ones and block the anime instances that aren’t local
Damn, I created !dragonball@ani.social there, didn’t know it would be so controversial
I love anime and I’m subscribed on there but if you look at the list if so many came from one instance then just block that instance from the app, I think there might be on the profile. Like:
But blocking the whole instance would also block other communities like !anime@ani.social
…
So just use that list as a resource for what to block?
At least they are exhaustive
Those moe are the worst because the majority are borderline loli.
I resent that.
Please don’t go around commenting things that will make readers think “moe” means something it doesn’t.
And we have different ideas of what “majority” means: !officemoe@ani.social, !thiccmoe@ani.social, !fitmoe@lemmy.world.
My reasons for setting up the communities are explicitly non-pornographic, and even the quite sexy content is not the kind anyone faps to.
Its about charachter art that is adorable and compelling in a way that provokes attachment. Not arousal, or at least not just that.
The newest !smolmoe@ani.social specifically does not allow lewd content at all, even though it includes adult characters, because I know people like you would instantly make it weird.
And it is weird, but not in the fucked up way you’re thinking of.
Its about charachter art that is adorable and compelling in a way that provokes attachment
I like the idea of Moe in concept because that’s what it’s supposed to be. But every day it was another upskirt drawing.
Then you’ll enjoy the ones with posts that are only rarely tagged nsfw:
- !anime_art@ani.social
- !streetmoe@ani.social
- !meganemoe@ani.social
- !militarymoe@ani.social
- !morphmoe@ani.social
- !smolmoe@ani.social
You keep saying “it’s only this thing I don’t like” but you haven’t even looked, have you?
I’m with you on this. That may not be the intent, but it sure as hell is the vibe they give off.
What “vibe”? The only descriptive words this person used are “worst” and “loli” and the obvious extrapolation there is a beyond serius accusation.
If you can acknowledge it’s not the “intent”, then why the fuck are you still “with” someone who seems to think that judging anime fans together with the absolute worst of humanity, is anywhere close to reasonable?
I absolutely didn’t acknowledge that it isn’t the intent, I said it may not be.
I absolutely think that is the intent and I find those communities to be gross and have them all blocked.
You are so weirdly defensive about it. Almost like you know a lot of people find it highly questionable and they may have a point. If you think every anime fan is into that crap, you are very sorely mistaken, and if you don’t, you are using inapplicable generalizations to make a point and that’s just deceptive.
Right (appreciate the sparky comment), but there seem to be anime subs for every little anime niche there could possibly be. If it was all limited to a few anime subs this would never have been an issue. Block one or two communities, and you’re done.
Instead, you have to play wackamole and block communities every couple of weeks that get created for some new niche that apparently is t filled.
On the other hand, imagine wanting to block Linux communities, it feels like every other day there’s a new one
I don’t mind the linux communities as much, but there are a lot of them too.
Are you actually checking the creation dates on the communities?
Or are you just mad that there are a lot of them, and that people actually post to them, even months after they get created, and so you end up seeing a new one now and then.
Because as one of the biggest anime content posters, “every couple weeks” is just not the case. There’s daily content but it’s from a definite group of subs that you absolutely can block.
Here, I even have a list: https://ani.social/post/284178
Why do you care so much?
Because they are the communities main posters.
If someone would pretend that I spam the All feed with new football communities every few weeks when it’s not the case, I would reply too
I got the impression it’s just a few people and the one I replied to was very hostile. They thought it was their right to post as much borderline loli as possible.
I had to do this for US politics but I don’t recall when I last saw an anime related post.
Check out ani.social and go from there.
Or just look at my post history.
It comes and goes in waves I believe. There was a time when you’d see a wave of Moe themed communities. The same has happened for music, and ai too. If you haven’t seen it, or don’t recall, then count yourself lucky.
Oh, they never stopped. I’m still posting regularly to all of them, but I set up all the ones I wanted, so if you blocked them you wont have seen any new ones pop up in a while.
Yes, OP’s post is unpopular.
I would also like to sign up for Anime news and updates.
Please lmk how to do this.
For grins just now I scrolled through ten (10) pages on “all” (i.e. including federated and not just local lemmy.world posts) and sorted by “hot” (the default).
I got one MurderMoe post, one ChainsawFolk post, and one TouhouProject post.
…And about ten linuxmemes posts, I didn’t even count how many politics posts, several TenForward posts, like five Lemmy Shitposts entries, quite a few News and World news, and three inscrutable posts in Arabic despite by content language being set to English.
Barely a single pair of anime tiddies among the whole lot. What a drag.
This has been my experience. Not complaining tbh but yeah when people complain about how they see “so much x” I begin to wonder if the rage-algo kicked in
No ich_iel?
No, surprisingly.
I normally find everything I see is in groups. I see either 1 or 2 anime posts, or 45. Never really anything in the middle.
You might try ani.social instance for more anime.
There is a post about anime communities on !newcommunities@lemmy.world
What is mental for me is that people browse the ALL feed and then complain about what it shows… I feel crazy only browsing my subbed communities all the time lol.
What’s crazy to me is that I browse all and have very little blocked and I don’t see the huge amounts of whatever the posts are complaining about (except if the complaint is about US politics). Rarely see more than 1 or 2 anime related posts in about 2 communities. Almost never see porn of any kind; let alone furry stuff and I’m on an instance meant for it.
Makes me wonder if they’re just getting a bug that some apps have where it just keeps repeating the same 5 posts as you scroll instead of correctly updating. That was the biggest issue I had with Connect and Liftoff.
I’m the same. I browse All and don’t remember the last time I saw any anime communities. I see porn occasionally, but it doesn’t bother me. When I find a community I like, I subscribe to it. If it’s a community I don’t like, I’ll block it. Once Lemmy grows more, I’ll probably just switch over to my subscribed feed.
I ran across a bunch of anime and weird fucking sexual anime pics until blocking. Not a big enough deal to make a thread but wanted to share that it does happen and my browsing/subs are mostly tech/networking, politics and formula1
Hmm yeah, definitely complainers should expand in what their setup is.
yeah, it doesn’t make sense to complain, but browsing ALL and blocking what you never wanna see again leaves you with lots of neat stuff you wouldn’t have found sticking to your subscribed communities.
however, i wish lemmy had categories/tags for communities, so people could block or specificly browse everything anime or everything sports etc. it would be quite helpful.
leaves you with lots of neat stuff you wouldn’t have found sticking to your subscribed communities.
Oh yeah, I can totally dig that, I had the trending communities at my subbed communities though, although I don’t see it popping up as often as it used to.
however, i wish lemmy had categories/tags for communities, so people could block or specificly browse everything anime or everything sports etc. it would be quite helpful.
I like Summit for Lemmy a lot because it let me create multi communities, so far I have one for gaming, one for retrogaming and other for handheld gaming, sadly Lemmy ain’t reddit yet (only the first two are fairly active).
This is what Im doing for now, also trying to subscribe to a bunch of stuff.
But Im newbhear and still browse reddit some as I figure all this out.
Now if only my favorite twitter followers would switch to mastadon…
Welcome here!
Tickle them until they agree to switch to Mastodon! Mwa ha ha ha!
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Lemmy needs customized feeds. You create a feed, You call it “Nintendo”. Then you create another catagory, “subscribed”. Then you open the subscribed catagory, and uncheck all the communities you’re subscribed to that relate to Nintendo.
Then you open Nintendo, and uncheck all, then recheck all communities that DO relate to Nintendo.
Now, if Nintendo has their direct, and it’s 11am because Japan isn’t in the same time zone as America, so you’re at work…you can browse “Subscribed” without being spoiled on the direct. Then, AFTER you get home, and watch the direct, you can browse by Subscribed + Nintendo, and you’ll see all your communities. Or browese by Nintendo, and ONLY see Nintendo communities that you’re subscribed to.
Now do that for every catagory you subscribe to.
You could browse by Nintendo + Pro Wrestling. Now you’re seeing a custom feed of JUST Nintendo related communities, and JUST Pro Wrestling communities mixed together in one feed. But you wouldn’t see your news communties, or your photography communities, or your porn communities.
But if you browse by all, you should have 2 options, All-All, and All-Local. Which should both be self explainitory. But browsing by All, you shouldn’t get the right to complain that somethng exists. You can block it, and never see it again, but that doesn’t mean someone else won’t make a similiar community, and you can’t complain. Things exist. Deal with it.
But we do need some more elaborate subscribe based feeds.
Multi communities are going to arrive thanks to a recent funding: https://lemmy.world/post/19692354?scrollToComments=true
This is great news! I hadn’t seen that. Thanks for sharing!
All is how I browsed reddit, so it’s how I browse Lemmy too. Like others have said, it allows you to find new communities, and is a pleasant experience once you filter out all the trouble communities and instances.
And TBF, Lemmy doesn’t have default communities and I’m too lazy/ADHD to subscribe to any of them.
That is fair, browsing my subbed subreddits for more than 10 years was my way to go for Reddit (Reddit was my replacement for Feedly, basically, so I am used to curating my stuff).
Maybe that is why, aside from the APIcalypse I don’t have a grudge against Reddit, and I missed some huge drama shit and toxic bs that you’d find in r/All (spam, bots and reposts too).
If you want drama, !fediverselore@lemmy.ca and !yepowertrippinbastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com have some
LMAO, no thanks, but I appreciate you sharing with me those communities (I didn’t know them).
How few interests do you have and how active are the communities? If I did just my subbed communities all the time it would be 2 day old politics and comedy subs with last post 2+ weeks ago.
I guess maybe you don’t browse much or you’ve got a much more active set of core subs.
(Maybe some of that unavoidable anime and femboy content IDK)
I follow more than 800 communities, I never finish up my backlog feed 🤣 (but I do see a lot of repeated content for sure).
I’ve got maybe 50? But you can’t get new ones without browsing “All” or searching for specific stuff. If you don’t know what you’re looking for “All” is the only way to find new communities.
I might try it more often, usually it is just a spam of memes for me, and for that I use other apps 😅
Why do you want to browse stuff that you have zero interest in? I imagine it to be a massive waste of time.
I’d prefer to view only the communities I’ve subbed to and see that there is no new contributions than look at stuff I have no interest in because I can turn off Lemmy and do something else with my day.
How do you know what new things you have no interest in? I block the stuff I don’t like, I sub what I definitely do like (and occasionally browse it), and the rest I am happy to watch pass by and give up- or downvotes accordingly.
This is like asking “why would you go to a new website when you already know what you like?” Or “why would you go to a new place to look for friends or dates when you know you like people at XXX place?”.
Frankly, sorry, this perspective of “anything I haven’t subbed I obviously don’t like” is pretty fuckin stupid. Don’t feel bad though, you aren’t alone thinking it.
“Frankly, sorry, this perspective of “anything I haven’t subbed I obviously don’t like” is pretty fuckin stupid. Don’t feel bad though, you aren’t alone thinking it.”
Likewise, I think it’s really stupid to be looking at content you have zero interest in. And likewise, don’t feel bad though, you aren’t alone.
Thanks for the belittling tone of your statement there 😉. You just have a different point of view.
How can you waste so much time looking at content that you have zero interest in? Don’t you have stuff to actually do in life, or are you one of these people that get bored because you’ve got nothing to do?
I’m a person that never gets bored. I always have something I want to do. I don’t have time to be doing things that aren’t necessary to survive and things I don’t enjoy.
I know who I am, and what I like. My interests are quite broad and I know what I don’t want to see. I prefer to white list my interests on Lemmy than black list the things I have zero interest in. Even thought my interests are quite broad, white listing is significantly shorter. In an infinite number of interests, my 1000 interests are significantly shorter than infinity-1000.
Edit: When I gain a new interest, which is usually a sub interest of another interest I have then I’ll look for the community on Lemmy/Reddit/other forums.
When I first started Reddit many years ago I learnt that all is usually full of rage bait content. I avoid rage bait as much as possible. I guestimate that all on Lemmy is exactly the same since most Lemmy users were/are Reddit users.
Live your best life yo, and have fun doing you. It would be cool to be young and know everything again.
You don’t engage with new communities, neat. I like to keep an eye open, because out of infinity - 1000, there are still infinite communities I MIGHT like. Or even infinite - 2000 I don’t like too. Look at all the math I can do. Here’s an emoji 😍. Shut up, dude. Tell all your friends how well you know yourself, your perspective is still fucking stupid.
Belittled because, here on the net, you are little. Just like everyone else.
Why are you so angry? Do you want to talk about it?
I like browsing all / scaled to find new community 🫠
Well, that is nice the trending communities community used to do that for me though.
Isn’t this instant dependent though?
Wdym? I am pretty sure it shows stuff from diverse instances.
!trendingcommunities@feddit.nl not the “trending” zone on the right
No, the majority probably does as you do
I’d suppose that, but so far all people that have replied to me say otherwise 😅
Oh no, that terrible anime subs and content. Quick everyone post more fully qualified !links to more of these groups so i can avoid them, there’s only been a few in the thread so far
You can straight up just stalk my post history ;D
You pop up so often I’m surprised when your not around.
MentalEdge goes on 7 day vacation.
You: “Hello, police? I think MentalEdge has been kidnapped or murdered. I haven’t seen any anime titties lately!”
Police: “…what is going on now?”
Yeah :D
It’s a pity not everyone wants me around, but I’m not going anywhere, so complaints are quite pointless.
I like having you around, feels less lonely posting on some communities
Don’t let them get you down. I feel like everything I post has SOME downvotes. People called me mentally deranged because I made a post in the Fediverse community that what the fediverse needs overall is for celebrities to call the fediverse home, and bring their userbases with them.
You know how you might see a celebrity say “Follow me at @CelebrityName”. Well right now, that username is universal. They want that same exact username on twitter, on youtube, on instagram. And I suggested that we need to have more of a profile system on the fediverse. So when you register MentalEdge on one fediverse platform, you’re registering the name MentalEdge. Nobody else could have that. And sure, you might be MentalEdge@Lemmy.World, but if someone were to come to Lemmy, and knew who MentalEdge was, they’d just search @MentalEdge. Then the search would find you MentalEdge@Lemmy.World, and maybe you signed up to pixelfed, and it finds that too. Because you’re the only MentalEdge.
People ignored the concept, and instead said “WE DON’T NEED CELEBRITIES HERE!!! AHHHH OTHER PEOPLE WHO AREN’T US ARE AWFUL!!!”
But, in kindergarten I had a rough first day of school. Kids made fun of me. And when I came home, my great aunt edna gave me advice that applied 36 years ago, and it applies today.
“FUCK EM! FUCK THE WHOLE LOT OF EM’! THEY DON’T KNOW SHIT! I BET THEY POOP THE BED EVERYNIGHT!”
Great advice then, great advice now.
And sure, you might be MentalEdge@Lemmy.World, but if someone were to come to Lemmy, and knew who MentalEdge was, they’d just search @MentalEdge.
I posted it there, but I’ll repeat: you know how email works, right? Mentaledge@gmail.com is not mentaledge@outlook.com
And like I replied there, when’s the last time a celebrity gave out their email address? They care more about the username brand that works across all platforms. Their publicist may know where to email them, but for general fans, they just put out a username like @Username. You never see Username@email.domain. And the reason is because it would be too easy to grab a duplicate email and impersonate them. Which was the whole point of the post. Right now I could register Blaze (he/him)@piefed.social and if someone is on an interface that they don’t see which instance you’re home to (such as how I don’t see your home instance right now), I could be you. I could say things you whole heartedly disagree with, and if people thought I was you, they would attribute you to saying such things. Maybe offensive things. Maybe posting offensive or illegal pictures. And now you are credited with having done that, despite never having done that.
So the risk for a celebrity being cancelled is too high for them to migrate to an unproven platform if they can’t even control their own username. Thus they won’t come, and thus the fediverse as a whole stays small and unknown as a result.

I maintain a list of alt accounts in my bio. I don’t care that much about that, if those impersonators (implying they use my profile picture, otherwise it’s just another Blaze, I have two friends called John, they’re not impersonating each other, they’re their own distinct person) get spotted, their accounts will probably get removed, they aren’t mine.
But I’m not a celebrity.
Should we report @MargotRobbie@lemmy.world and get that account banned?
Yes. My block list is YUGE.
this is how i manage it, people say use subscribed but that shit blocks you in. fedi needs people posting across communities to liven it up
fedi needs people posting across communities to liven it up
Curious coming from someone with 0 posts.
But yes, we do need more people
i am more of a shit
poaster“commenter”By the way, is this your first account or an alt? If it’s your first, how do you find Lemmy after a month?
migrated after kbin.run got epstein’s so been around a hot minute.
either way, deff won’t skip a chance to shill fediverse. personally i prefer mbin as my instance. big believer in decentralized social media and willing to suffer QoL hits for it. fediverse does fix the itch reddit used to fix so high hopes we can get it to the level where it becomes the defacto social media of the world without any of the nasty corpo bullshi that happened as result of web2.0.
doing my part.jpeg
Mbin is cool, thank you for your comment
I browse by All, and rarely see them anymore. I think my instance and community blocking strategy must be working.
This person curates their feed ⬆️
How can I achieve this?
You block instances, users, and communities you don’t want in your feed.
And you subscribe to communities you’d like to check back on.
I’m more concerned about the huge number of posts involving politics in my app.
I’m literally here to complain about politics and see anime shit.
“And I’m already out of anime shit.”
Too bad I’m not 😔
Yep, sorry were a bit loud lol.
Nah. Keep being loud, I can’t hear you.
No, really, I can’t hear you at all. I’m just reading your messages.
For some unfortunate reason, the anime shit doesn’t seem to appear in my feed, though.
Because nobody from your instance subscribed: https://lemmy.eco.br/c/anime@ani.social
“0 local subscribers”
Time to change that number, then!
I recommend to block them too except if you are interested in that
I’m more worried about the slow increase in toxic car posts. If I wanted that Id use Facebook more
Pro or against cars? I thought that Lemmy was against cars, and Facebook pro?
They chill until they post sexy pictures of 16 year old characters.
Then you post the age of the character in the post. That more fun than blocking.
Maybe slap some quotes on sexy
So that takes, what, 3 posts?
Block ani.social or @MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz. You can block me too because I post on !nokotan@ani.social.
I do post a lot of non-anime stuff, too.
Like !gameart@sopuli.xyz and more recently !moomin@sopuli.xyz.
I know.
Love the moomins one!
But then they would lose !balatro@lemm.ee
For a second I wasn’t sure if I had posted this and just didn’t remember it
This is the dream.
Try sports now…
Wait where are you seeing all the sports content? Any sport communities I browse have only a handful of regulars knocking about (don’t get me wrong, I’m glad of them, but it’s not quite the same as Reddit)
With sports it is more annoying because they tend to come in through bursts for very specific communities, like individual sports teams. Blocking each sports team community one at a time is like playing whack a mole.
It isn’t that they are overwhelming the All - Hot feed all the time, but there are bursts where they do.
Back in the day, when Reddit was a thing, I always wanted some sort of dynamic curated block list. If I were to subscribe to the “sports” block list, then all the current sports subs would be added to my filters. Every time a new sports sub gets created, users have the ability to add that new sub to the dynamic “sports” list. At that point, everyone else that is subscribed to that “sports” list gets that new sub added to their filters automatically.
Categorizing things for blocklists is great concept, but since most content isn’t even marked for language I doubt the categories would be reliable enough to use.
There is a post about sport communities on !newcommunities@lemmy.world
Ah the one from a week ago or so? There were a couple new ones for me in there, but none of the sports I’m interested in (basically football* & rugby) have super active communities. I’m glad I’m an arsenal fan at least because we’re the one team community I’ve seen that seems to have something new every day.
*The international kind, not NFL
(Also cheers to you for keeping the content up in the new communities community, definitely found a lot through your posts)
Yes, that one indeed!
I only browse new, but anything sports related gets insta banned for me.
I’ve been getting a lot of formula 1 and WWF lately, sorting by “all”, “active”, and “new.” I just keep scrolling.
Anime and odd sexual fetish subs. And whatever this furry stuff is
I mean, I notice the furry subs when I browse by all…but we need MORE sexual fetish subs, not less. I don’t engage with the furry subs, but we NEED more porn community porn. You think twitter would have grown if they had blocked porn back in 2008? Just look at Tumblr. They banned porn, and the users banned Tumblr. I heard they tried to undo the goof, but it’s too late. Other platforms took their place in their absence.
If you don’t like a fetish, block it, and move on. The internet is for porn.
You know about lemmynsfw.com, right?
Yeah, and from what I see, my favorite communities there go weeks/months without new posts. I’m saying we need more content!
Be the change you want to see: post there
Also, I feel like nowadays with OnlyFans and mainstream porn sites the content is more on those platforms than forums like Reddit
Dude I got ya, I’ll post some.
I can understand what you’re saying, and I absolutely do ban tons of the weird fetish ones. They are just never ending lol. Guess I could just move to an instance where they have guardrails up.
I miss the 2000’s, when people were a little bit ashamed to admit they like anime. Now like half the people on the internet literally have anime profile pictures. It’s weird as fuck.
It wouldn’t even annoy me so bad if I didn’t constantly get targeted for anime related advertising. I can’t stand anime. Why does my algorithm think I want anime things? I will never buy a big titted anime figurine, and just seeing one makes me curse the gods for giving me sight.
Lemmy doesn’t have an algorithm. Everyone gets the exact same feed, and you curate what you see using subs and blocks.
Which is why I use Lemmy
Except I think your instance affects what you see. Not all communities and instances are replicated everywhere.
That’s not an algorithm.
An instance simply receives updates from all the communities to which at least one user on the instance has subscribed.
Instances do not send updates to every other instance on the fediverse, only the ones where there are users that follow the content in question.
That still means the differences will be small, as every reasonably sized instance is going to have at least one subscriber to every reasonably sized community.
Why does my algorithm think I want anime things?
Lemmy shows everything to everyone except if you block the communities.
Lemmy is like the only social media I have that doesn’t try to fist fuck anime down my throat strangely enough. I block them when I see them tho so maybe that’s why
I don’t mind anime but it’s multiple instances per anime and they’re endless. Also I didn’t wanna bring it up but so many of them are sexualized and weird
Dude anime stories, I’ll like read about it on tv tropes and be like “oh that’s a good story I’ll try it” and then it’s like infantilized women who are also sexualized in disturbing ways constantly instead, and the cool story idea kind of gets obliterated by it.
Just block the instance
Nice profile picture! Can I have it?
You’re awesome
Instances, plural. Hundreds of them. Hundreds of blocks.
What? There are other anime instances? Where?
I only know about ani.social, and I’m basically the biggest anime content poster on lemmy.
I know there are a few anime communities, in a lot of instances I thought it was just ani.social. TIL
It’s not just anime, but also (in my experience) music, games, and ai. They seem to feel that there needs to be a community for every. single. possible. sub-genre. 😞
You can say the same for politics, memes, and many other genres for that matter. And I have no doubt there are those that are bothered by it too. Yes, we can all hide away under our local or subscribed feeds, but that’s a narrow-minded and xenophobic solution. We all should be able to scroll whatever feed, using whatever sort, we choose to use and not be assailed and harassed by these fervent die-hard (possibly ocd) “fans” of whatever genre du jour there happens to be.
It’s a shame that Lemmy does not have a way to tag communities by genre. And it’s a shame most communities probably wouldn’t use it even if it were supported. It would not only help filtering out specific content, but conversely it would help with content discovery. Of course there is also any potential for abuse, because let’s face it, there are those that will just because they can. But I do t feel that’s worth not having a useful feature like tagging or whatever you want to call it.
We all should be able to scroll whatever feed, using whatever sort, we choose to use and not be assailed and harassed by these fervent die-hard (possibly ocd) “fans” of whatever genre du jour there happens to be.
If you don’t like specific communities, block them?
I should be able to be a diehard fan of niche fandoms and hobbies without being told “no, stop enjoying things”. What exactly do you expect people who like things to do, just not have communities for the things they like?
The first thing I expect of anybody is to read and comprehend the things they reply to.
Nowhere in my comment did I say that people should stop creating communities. In fact, what I did say was that we should be able to categorize communities using tags. I even suggested that people. For example, using these tags to filter or find communities of interest.
So yeah, there’s that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
