And that is the end of this show. I think the show ended up fine, if a bit forgettable. I think the highlights of this first season are some of the characters. Rose in particular is really the character that makes this series. If they hadn’t done a good job depicting her, then the whole show would have fallen flat. I think one of the big drawbacks of this season was that the pace was pretty slow. If you weren’t connecting with the characters, then this show would have been extremely dull since a huge portion of it was dialog.

Going forward, I am not sure I would be jumping at a season 2. From what I have read of the manga, this opening arc was the highlight for me. The journey that Usato sets out on carrying these letters fell really flat by comparison for me. I am not sure how much farther into the story a hypothetical season 2 would go, but this journey is a long one and I ended up dropping the manga before he reached the beast kingdom.

The rose and usato character dynamic is definitely the best part of the series imo. Specially in this episode.

The “postman arc” in the manga (though I think it’s multiple arcs under a bigger arc–but they’re unrelated, at least it seems at the start) really felt like a huge drag. Every town they passed by had a little arc of its own, some entertaining, some just felt meh. A hypothetical S2 might take some of those little arcs, perhaps two or three towns as they make their way. S3 could probably feature the rest of the way to their destination, but idk, at the rate the manga is being published, there might be just enough for an 2-cour S2, but not by much.

This season ending was fine, not too sure how driven I’d be to watch season 2. I feel like the show has had to compete with the likes of Solo Leveling, and Shangri-La Frontier, both of which have so much more depth to their characters, leaving this one feeling a bit shallow.
